<image:caption>Hemp, marlin, sisal, spunyarn…comes pre tarred or dry. Takes a lot of upkeeping. Involving natural materials means a lot of regular maintenance. Lack of maintenance makes the material vulnerable to water absorbtion, rot or drying out and breaking, loosing its purpose. It doesnt contain any microplastic, environmently friendly and historically the way to go. Very prone to dry out and UV damage.</image:caption>

<image:title>Tricks of the Trade - Serving Twine - Synthetic twine TWISTED</image:title>
<image:caption>Such as classic spun polypropyleen twine, or seine twine(tarred nylon) or Hempex. In some cases looking like natural twine, often still tared. Brings a longer lifetime and a traditional look and feel together. The problem with synthetic twine is its vulnerability to UV damage and lower abrasion (chafe) resistance. It is a bit more forgiving to a lack of maintenance but still should be treated regularly to ensure longelivity.</image:caption>

<image:caption>2 Saftey Lines on the Number 1 Shrouds, one on the last. The Safteylines are thight, cant blow in the wind and always run from the lower endterminal, over the platform (or crosstrees) and end in a good height to transfer the asap on to the next line, while standing securly on the Platform. The hint here: While climbing over the futtocks (or beneath it) the Asap does not need to be transfered. Therefore the little Hook on the Picture. The line is only guided and can be taken in and out, to slide the Asap through. The hook keeps the saftey line close to the lead of the shrouds and out of the running rigging. Transfering of the Asap while climbing all the way to the top: in total 3 times.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My favourite for synthetic serving. Pure, makes everything black and shiny, it originally is designed to prolong the live of synthetic fishing nets. If you not on a traditional boat which doesnt do hemp, this is the shit. Its just very runny and if you have new served material you ll need quite some layers to get a thick, black coat, as it soaks in super well. Tries up mat black.
